asking god for everything you want
even though you know you live in a box
you're the man digging in a garbage can
for dinner on your birthday
searching for scraps and praying for a mouse
to feed your three little starving kids
tonight you'll add a big new room to your cardboard house
with a newspaper lid
we've gone blind
from the daily grind
we try to pass the time to no avail
not straying too far from the trail
we love to be afraid of the man on the street
he's got different colored socks on each of his feet
he's carrying big bag of crushed beer cans
he's saving up for whiskey
he's got a heart and its week from the cold
he leaves the train station just like he's told
the sports page will provide for warm
on those cold winter days
we've gone blind
with our narrow minds
we try to fight the future to no avail
we're locked in a prison without bail we've gone
blind
we've got no rewind
there's only one way to go and its getting stale
i don't want to spend the rest of my life in jail.
